How to buy well at $20K

  • Low miles aren't zero risk. Cars that sit can develop dried seals, old tires and stale fluids. Check tire date codes and ask what's been serviced.
  • Originality affects value. On enthusiast cars, original paint, documents and unmodified parts often matter for resale. Ask what's been changed.
  • Compare recent sales. Check recent auction results and comparable listings to see what similar cars actually sell for.
  • Inspect, even if it looks perfect. Use a specialist familiar with the model if you can.
  • Get a clean paper trail. Confirm the VIN on the car, title and history report all match, and that there's no lien.
